Goal Update 12/14

Goal 1) HTWAN story

My Goal: 150 wpd, 450 wpw
Where I planned to be: 44150 total words
Where I am: 44552 total words
On Target or Behind: …FINISHED!

How’s It Going:
IT IS DONE. Almost 500 words short of 45k, but that’s okay. I realized about halfway through that I dropped a piece of technology that became pretty important toward the end, so I know I’ll end up adding words in revision. But either way, it’s done!

My official finish date was the 12th, so my earliest pick up date to start revision on this would be Jan 11th, if I use the 30-day mark. I will… probably not start that soon. I have another novel in the wings waiting for revision first. And it’s ready to go, ASAP.

Code name “Something You Can’t Understand”

Yes, I was smart this time and printed one-sided, and it is a whopping 358 pages, just over 50k words.

Goal 2) Some Kind of Savior

My Goal: 1 lesson per month, 10 pages per day for type-in
Where I planned to be: 60 pages typed in
Where I am: 81 pages typed in

How’s It Going:
I’m having to pace myself, because all I want to do is rip through the rest of it at once. But it’s going well. What’s great is the closer I get to the end, the less work I have to do, because the beginning was more messed up than the end. There is a lot of cutting and pasting going on though, where I’ve moved entire scenes around.

I am gonna have to go through when I’ve got everything cleaned up and really get my time straightened out. I couldn’t do it on paper very easily, with everything so screwed up, but hopefully it won’t take long on the computer.

Goal Update 12/7

Semester is over, baby! Yes, I made all As. Made hundreds on both finals, even. (Third class didn’t have a final exam.) Nothing stopping me now except for the day job ~~and executive dysfunction and headaches~~.

How’s It Going:
Did I change my goal numbers finally? Yes, yes I did. Now it actually looks like I’m getting somewhere. XD I’m working off the assumption that I will hit 45k before the end, and still finish before the 31st. (The latter is much more likely, but I may surprise myself with the word count.)

Which, now that I have a decent idea how I’m gonna end this, I’ve obviously gone way over my new goals. -shrug- Nothing ever goes the way you expect it to.

How’s It Going:
So I counted my pages and I… do not have 150. But I’m sticking to my 10 pages per day goal. It’s a nice even doable number. And if I finish before the 31st, well, good. And I probably will, at this rate. Finally getting my hands in this thing and fixing it is too much fun.

How’s It Going:
Didn’t write much this week. Mostly due to school wrapping up and of course Thanksgiving. But this week’s lesson (35) has definitely helped me lay out how I’m going to end this. Maybe I’ll hit 45k, maybe I won’t, but I know I won’t be getting to 50k like I originally planned. That’s okay.

How’s It Going:
IT’S HAPPENING.

I don’t know how to measure how much I need to do to get this done on time. My page numbers go up to 102, but I have… a lot of page numbers that ended up with letters appended to them… It’s entirely possible I have 150 pages, idk. If I go with that number, I need to do at least 10 pages a day. With classes almost over, and my draft almost finished, I think I can manage that.

Goal Update 11/23

I don’t think I’ve mentioned anything about this at all on here, but back in March, I started wearing an orthotic to help realign my jaw. My teeth don’t line up properly, and never have, so I’ve just adapted, which caused TMJ pain, jaw popping and clicking, jaw clenching, enamel wear, and noticable wear on the jaw joint via CT scan. After wearing this hunk of acrylic in my mouth 24/7 for six months, with weekly adjustments, my dentist proclaimed me stable in September, and last week I finally got to see my orthodontist. After a small little hiccup due to not wearing the thing during the day (which I was told I didn’t have to do!), I’m cleared to get braces. The week before Christmas.

I am both excited (I don’t have to wear this orthotic anymore! One step closer to fixing my goddamn teeth/jaw issues!) and… well, I’ve had braces before. I know what’s coming. But I survived it the first time, I can do it again.

And I’ve had people ask, but no, I can’t get Invisalign. I’ve seen the models of my teeth, and I can feel the fact that none of my teeth touch. Metal braces with rubber bands are gonna be my only option, and in reality, the quickest and cheapest option anyway.

Back to the important stuff.

How’s It Going:
Great, actually. I’m still technically behind on my goal, but I’m pretty much ignoring it at this point. I wrote 1245 words this week; that’s better than each of the last three weeks. I’m not gonna complain. The ending is… very near.

Goal Update 11/16

Goal 1) HTWAN story

How’s It Going:
This looks bad. But I’m taking it easy, and I spent a little time looking through a book I got for Christmas last year, Save the Cat! Writes A Novel by Jessica Brody. Long story, but basically she took a guide to story structure in screenwriting and adapted it to writing novels. Not much of a process guide, so it didn’t help me on its own, but picking it back up now did give me some ideas on how to end this thing, or at least a direction to run in.

I’ll probably go a little harder next week, with the combination of ideas, being officially done with one of my online classes (!!!), and one of my other classes easing up on homework as we gear up for finals. (Yes, I am one of those horrible, disgusting people who don’t have to study. Sue me.)
