Down at the bottom, but I’m fine

Goal 1) Write BM&A3

  • My Goal: 500 WPD, 1500 WPW
  • Where I planned to be: Not here
  • Where I am: 16955 words
  • On Target or Behind:

How’s It Going:
I’m taking a break from writing this. I’ve been considering it for a while, but my last session with my psychologist has confirmed that this is the best plan. My soft return will be around the new year.

In the meantime, I will work on related things. I’m in the process of releasing the first two books in paperback. I’ve been planning this for a while, but I haven’t really had the time to sit down and get everything together. The biggest job honestly is formatting the covers, which I’m kind of having to backward engineer. But we’ll see how the proof looks.

Everything changes

Goal 1) Write BM&A3

  • My Goal: 500 WPD, 1500 WPW
  • Where I planned to be: We’re just avoiding the subject
  • Where I am: 16648 words
  • On Target or Behind: De Nile is a river in Africa

How’s It Going:
I’m not gonna lie, folks. I am struggling.

I’ve spent the last 2 (3? what is time) weeks taking it easy, trying to organize my thoughts and it’s…well, it’s not going well. I can see some of what’s happening, snippets of interaction and dialogue, but not with enough clarity to put into enough words to create a full scene.

Lay my tentacles in the crucible

Goal 1) Write BM&A3

  • My Goal: 500 WPD, 1500 WPW
  • Where I planned to be: I’m afraid to look
  • Where I am: 12906 words
  • On Target or Behind: Behind

How’s It Going:
-sighs-

Sorry for the radio silence. I’ve been seriously struggling with this. I could list several excuses, but the truth is, I’m in a funk. I’ve been stuck, hating everything I do write, and not wanting to keep going. I’ve been able to squeeze out at least a hundred or so words a day the last two weeks, but it’s been like trying to get the very last bit of toothpaste out of the tube.

I did some brainstorming during my lunch break on Wednesday and picked out some ideas that needed some fleshing out, and one of them really piqued my interest. So I’ve been able to make at least a little headway this week.

Guess who’s still a trash can

Goal 1) Write BM&A3

  • My Goal: 500 WPD, 1500 WPW
  • Where I planned to be: 12000 words
  • Where I am: 10794 words
  • On Target or Behind: Behind

How’s It Going:
Now I know why when one of my coworkers found out that I write novels somewhere between holding down a full-time job, being a serious crocheter, and a somewhat serious 3D printing enthusiast (and that’s only scratching the surface), he looked me dead in the eye and asked, “How do you have time?”

The secret is, I don’t. I really, really don’t. I’m always exhausted. I squeeze the living daylights out of every second I have and it’s never enough. If I had twice as many hours in a day, it wouldn’t be enough. So when I have to take a break, it’s painful, but I also know that not pausing sometimes will be even more painful in the long run.

All of that to say, I’m not trying to push myself to breaking here. Any progress is still progress.

Inertia is a property of matter

Goal 1) Write BM&A3

  • My Goal: 500 WPD, 1500 WPW
  • Where I planned to be: 7500 words
  • Where I am: 7145 words
  • On Target or Behind: Behind

How’s It Going:
I may have started off slow, but I think I just needed some time to get up to speed. I’m far more limited on time now that I’m working full time, but I think that limitation is actually helping.

Idk, I’m probably just talking out of my ass. Especially considering I didn’t hit my goal for the week. I could not focus at all Friday. And the next 2 weeks I’ll be on vacation, so I may not even get a chance to write. But we’ll see.
